It’s a Wrap

Made infamous by Diane Von Furstenberg, the wrap dress is now a staple in every girl’s closet.  The wrap dress is always flattering and always in style making it the perfect piece and it can be dressed up or down making it superb for any occasion.   You can go bold with a print or bright color or use it as the canvas and let the jewelry pop.  It is such a simple and classic silhouette, with the cinched waist and appropriately deep v, the wrap dress is truly perfection.

Also make sure to check out all of the jewelry worn in this post because one piece will be given away to one of my lucky readers! So get excited and check back this Wednesday for details and the official rules of entry for this super fab GIVEAWAY courtesy of Fornash!!!

Oversized Sweater: The Winter Uniform

Don’t let this warm week trick you!  It is still winter and we are in store for another cold front (hopefully the warmth will last through the Inauguration though).  So my solution to braving the chilly winter winds is the oversized sweater.  If you haven’t embraced it already, it is time!  Remember the cozier the better, but always keep your frame in mind.  Regardless of the size, the sweater should always be flattering.  And if you don’t want to invest in this super cozy garment, which I highly suggest you do, you can always borrow or steal one from a boyfriend, friend, brother, hubby or any man in your life.

You can't go wrong with super skinny pants and an extra oversized top! I'm also loving the flat pointed boots and Lennon glasses.

Oversized Sweater: The Winter Uniform

This winter I am living in my super cozy oversized sweaters.  The secret to finding the perfect oversized sweater is gender bending and shopping in the men’s department.  As you’ve seen from previous posts, I am a huge proponent of menswear for women.  Oversized doesn’t mean overpowering, which is something you must keep in mind when shopping in the men’s department.  The key to successfully pulling off men’s clothing is proportion and respecting your body.  I tend to pair oversized with tight allowing you to still show off your figure, while also emphasizing the oversized article.  When shopping for your oversized garment remember that the piece must be large enough to achieve the desired effect, but not so large that you drown in it.  Keep in mind you don’t have to buy a men’s sweater to find oversized, but it is my go to.  So please embrace my winter uniform and get cozy and fabulous at the same time, who ever thought those two words would be in the same sentence.

Sweater: J. Crew, last season (similar found here), Pants: Tripp NYC (found here), Scarf: Zara (found here), Boots: J. Crew, old (similar found here), Bag: Alexander Wang (found here)

Another key to beating the chilly winds are oversized scarves.

Proportion is crucial when wearing menswear.

Pairing the white sweater with a printed camo pant brings a little more excitement to the ensemble.

Holiday Gift Guide

Day Fifteen of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide

Today is the fifteenth and final day of Garden of Glam’s Gift Guide and the special guest is none other than your curator of all things fabulous, me.  I hope you have enjoyed the gift guide as much as I have and have been inspired by my incredible guests and their creative, unique, and swoon worthy wish and give lists.  The downside to compiling this gift guide is that my wish list has tripled, but on the upside this has been the most stress free shopping season EVER.  Not to brag, but I finished all of my Christmas shopping with time to spare, this has literally never happened to me before.  But fear not shopping delinquents, there is still time for overnight delivery and of course shopping in a store.

I want to thank all of my wonderful contributors–this absolutely would not have been possible without you!!  Thank you thank you thank you and Happy Holidays!!

MY WISH LIST

Polaroid Instant Digital Camera.  I am totally obsessed with this camera!  It’s time to bring back the polaroid, they are the definition of instant gratification and there is something about polaroids that just makes the pictures better!  So amazing!  This is on my wish & give list this season and would be perfect for a significant other, sibling, friend, roommate or cousin.

Cole Haan Cassidy Bootie.  I have been in search of the perfect black bootie all fall/winter and I have finally found it!  They are the perfect height for every day wear and I love that they have a brown heel.  They also use Nike Air technology, which I’m assuming means they are the most comfortable shoe to ever exist.  These are at the top of my wish list!  Perfect for a significant other, sibling, cousin or friend.

Warby Parker Preston Glasses.  Warby Parker is such an incredible company! Not only do they have stylish, flattering glasses that are reasonably priced, they also donate a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that is sold.  I currently wear the Zagg frames and am excited to add Preston into the rotation.  This would be a great gift for a glasses wearing friend who likes to mix things up.  And don’t worry about finding the perfect frame as a gift, you can also buy gift certificates and they make amazing sunglasses now!

Kindle from Amazon.  This is a practical and thoughtful gift (and also on my wish list).  Kindle’s are wonderful, because they are light weight, you can download anything instantly on them, and you can adjust the font size making it a perfect gift for people that have vision problems.  I prefer the original kindle to the fire, because there isn’t any back lighting making it easier on the eyes.

Tickets to Book of Mormon on Broadway.  My boyfriend is literally the hardest person to shop for in the whole entire world and I normally strike out when I buy him material things so I have moved on to experiences.  This year I bought us tickets to see Book of Mormon on Broadway, something that he has been dying to see.  Obviously, you don’t have to buy tickets to this show specifically, but check out what’s at the Kennedy Center!  I love going to the ballet and try to see Alvin Ailey whenever they are in town, not your thing?  What about the symphony or a play?

Smart Wool Socks.  These get me through the winter every year.  I went to college in Wisconsin and quickly had to learn how to adapt to the subzero winters and these saved me!  They come in different thicknesses and lengths and are perfect for boots.  I also have a pair of Smart Wool gloves that are to die for!  This is a gender neutral gift that you can give to anyone in your life!

Day Eleven of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide: Jenny (Marketing for Club Monaco)

Jenny is the Associate Marketing Manager for Club Monaco, did marketing for Alice + Olivia, and worked in publishing at InStyle.  Jenny is the definition of fabulous, always looking super stylish whether she is casual in chucks or dressed to the nines for Fashion Week or other incredible events.  Jenny has been featured in Refinery 29 and has been photographed by Bill Cunningham (the ultimate honor).

As a reminder, I have asked each contributor to share what’s on their wish list and give list this holiday season with the hope of making your holiday shopping a little easier.

Ralph Lauren Keyhole Sunglasses.  I’m always on the search for the perfect pair of sunglasses.  I think my search has ended.

These sunglasses are to die for! These have been added to my wish list, which is ridiculously long now.  The shape is amazing and I love the yellow tortoise shell.  Sunglasses are a personal gift to give, because fit is crucial so make sure you are close with the lucky recipient of this gift.  These glasses are also gender neutral.  These would be great for a significant other, sibling or close family member.

Catbird Stacking Rings.  As someone who doesn’t wear much jewelry at all, I love simple and delicate pieces.  Catbird in Williamsburg, Brooklyn carries some of my favorite whimsical jewelry–their thin stacking rings are my favorite.

Catbird has the most incredible one of a kind, delicate pieces.  And they have a fully functioning website so you don’t have to be a NY resident to shop there.  Their rings or any jewels would be perfect for a friend, girlfriend, sister or mother.

Terrapin Stationary.  As the oldest running stationer in NYC, family owned Terrapin Stationers offers some of the finest quality stationary with a does of irreverence.  They are beautiful yet will make anyone on your gift list laugh.

I am obsessed with the idea of giving personalized stationary!  There is nothing more special than receiving a hand written note in the mail, a nod to a more dignified time.  Terrapin has beautiful and cheeky stationary, the best combination.  Great for a co-worker, friend, family member, or as a host gift.

Day Eight of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide: Dan (Marketing Director for Etre)

Dan is the Marketing and Press Director for Etre, a clothing line that draws its inspiration from traditional British workwear.  Etre looks to the best time-tested solutions from the past, as well as pioneering innovative techniques.  Each piece is lovingly crafted in the British Isles, using ethically sourced, time-honored British materials.

As a reminder, I have asked each contributor to share what’s on their wish list and give list this holiday season with the hope of making your holiday shopping a little easier.

YMC Navajo Umbrella.  Given the poor weather that we’ve been experiencing in the UK this year this is at the top of my wish list.  Like our AW12 collection, London Undercover has Britishness at its core and has returned the umbrella to its rightful position as a fashion accessory.

An umbrella is such a great an unexpected gift! It is incredibly practical and thoughtful and perfect for both genders.  I never want to spend much on umbrellas so always end up with the cheapo ones that turn inside out with the slightest breeze.  A well made umbrella is necessary, but isn’t something people typically buy for themselves.  Check out this purse friendly vibrant umbrella! Great for a friend, roommate, significant other, parent, sibling, in law, aunt, uncle….anyone!

Etre Touchy  or Five Point Wool Gloves. Our Etre FIVEPOINT gloves have been designed specifically for use with touchscreen devices. Thanks to their special contactwoven® fingertips, they do what other gloves don’t: They let you use devices without having to take them off.  The Etre Touchy gloves have missing thumb and index fingertips to provide additional dexterity. They have proven popular not only with mobile phone users, but with photographers, portable videogame players, e-reader/Amazon Kindle users and the visually impaired (who use them to read Braille in wintry conditions).

Gloves are crucial for surviving winter and these are perfect because they still allow you to use mobile devices!  Gloves are on my wish list every year!  These would be perfect for significant others, parents, friends or really anyone that you need to buy a present for.
