Calling all Brides-to-Be

Come one come all to the amazing and beautiful Monique Lhuillier Trunk Show between August 22-24 at Carine’s Bridal Atelier (by appointment only).  Carine’s Bridal Atelier is THE bridal fashion house of Washington, DC and one of my absolute favorite collaborators.  Interested in past collaborations?  Check them out here and here!  Next Thursday through Saturday, Carine’s is hosting the Spring 2014 Trunk Show for Monique Lhuillier.  Monique Lhuillier’s name and designs are synonymous with grace, beauty and sartorial excellence.  She is my absolute favorite wedding gown designer and I am not the only one!  Stars like Reese Witherspoon, Carrie Underwood and Giuliana Rancic all turned to Monique Lhuillier to design their show stopping pieces for their wedding day.  Need more incentive to attend the trunk show?  All brides-to-be will be given fabulous swag bags filled with goodies.

Wedding Guest Fashion: The Day Wedding

Welcome to the final collaborative day of the Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide.  Today is dedicated to the day wedding, which tends to be less common but cannot be ignored.  Dressing for a day wedding can be tricky, because a lot of dresses that we purchase with the hopes of wearing to an evening event do not translate to day time.  Shorter hemlines, uber figure hugging silhouettes, sequins and boobilicious dresses don’t always lend themselves to blaring spotlight of the sun.  Because of this people tend to turn to business wear or more casual options both of which lack the necessary flare for a celebratory event.  As always play with proportions, colors (embrace color, patterns, and subtle shimmer), fabrics (make sure it is light and airy so you are comfortable), silhouettes and hemlines.  Finding the balance for a day wedding can be tricky, but when executed correctly it is absolute perfection.

Day weddings tend to be more conservative, but make sure your ensemble has some spice to it! I love this dress because of the fabulous metallic detailing.

Wedding Guest Fashion: Formal & Cocktail

I think it is fair to say that the most common dress code for weddings is formal or cocktail attire therefore today’s Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide is dedicated to the broad spectrum that is formal wedding wear.  Formal is wonderful because you can go short or long (and you know how much I love long).  Formal is of course a step down from black tie and lends itself to many different styles, silhouettes, colors and fabrics.  And cocktail is a slight step below formal.  However, when experimenting with fabrics and volumes always be mindful of the location of the wedding and if it is indoor or outdoor.  Take it from someone who tends to overheat quickly, the last thing you want is to be stuck outside in an oppressively heavy dress.  With that said play around and find what works best for you, your body type, the venue, and make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to dance the night away in.
