Wedding Guest Fashion: Formal & Cocktail

I think it is fair to say that the most common dress code for weddings is formal or cocktail attire therefore today’s Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide is dedicated to the broad spectrum that is formal wedding wear.  Formal is wonderful because you can go short or long (and you know how much I love long).  Formal is of course a step down from black tie and lends itself to many different styles, silhouettes, colors and fabrics.  And cocktail is a slight step below formal.  However, when experimenting with fabrics and volumes always be mindful of the location of the wedding and if it is indoor or outdoor.  Take it from someone who tends to overheat quickly, the last thing you want is to be stuck outside in an oppressively heavy dress.  With that said play around and find what works best for you, your body type, the venue, and make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to dance the night away in.

A very special thank you to my fabulous collaborators that made this post possible!  Thank you Carine’s Bridal Atelier for providing the gorgeous gowns, Charm & Fornash for the flawless baubles, and Drybar for the beautiful blow out!

Formal

Dress: Marchesa (c/o Carine’s Bridal), Jewels: Charm Georgetown & Fornash, Hair: Drybar

Marchesa Garden of Glam

One of the most amazing things about spring/summer wear is that brights are always in. Make sure that one aspect of your ensemble is a true stand out.

Marchesa

Just because the dress is bold does not mean you have to shy away from accessories and bling!

The exaggerated fan sleeve is my absolute favorite! Because there are a lot of components to the dress a more conservative hemline is crucial.

The Printed Pant (II)

As I’ve said before, I love a printed pant for spring!  Well really, I love it for any season!  It is a statement piece that adds a pop of pizzazz to any ensemble!  If it isn’t already, a bold print should be a staple in your closet!  Rocking an expected print shows you have confidence and of course style.  In my book, it is the new LBD, but it is better, because rocking a bold print allows you stand out from the crowd.  A bold print is also perfect for any occasion and let’s be real, nothing is better than a well tailored pant!

Black & White

Black and white is a timeless color combination.  Donning this classic duo, not only allows you to exude ease and class, but putting the look together is actually easy.  Color blocking is very on trend, but can be tricky and can quickly end in disaster if you don’t have an eye for color.  Black and white is the original color block and oozes sophistication.  And because this is such an effortless pairing it allows you to mix fabric textures more freely.

perfect for way to transition your wardrobe to cooler weather. i love the intricate cropped top paired with a classic black maxi.

FNO Georgetown (InstaStyle)

This past Thursday marked an important evening in the fashion world, a night where people put on their finest and roamed the streets in search of a party, a good deal and with hopes of being noticed.  This magical night that I am describing is Fashion’s Night Out, which is really just a celebration of all things fabulous and oh yes, spending.  This was my first FNO and I had a wonderful time!  I saw some incredibly inspirational outfits, met some marvelous people, and may or may not have purchased a few things (all in the name of the economy, right?).  Please enjoy my FNO Georgetown as seen through the lovely lens of Instagram.

Top: old, Pants: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Cuff: Gift, Necklace: BCBG (found here), Clutch: Gigee Marie (similar found here)

Details of the evening. Rings: BCBG (old) & Annie Cream Cheese

View from above. Shoes: DVF (old)

Clearly, I am a fan of the black and white combo! I am obsessed with these pants that at first glance could pass as a skirt!

Love the intricate sequins and beading patterns. I also love the unexpected fur accessory add on.

Looking fabulous in sequins, chambray, & motorcycle boots

Brave pairing of stripes and leopard

Best dressed couple of the evening! Kevin Gray of MensStylePoint.

Obsessed with each element of these ensembles.

Fab fall accents

Neon

As I mentioned before, this is neon appreciation week…I’m hoping this catches on and becomes a national holiday.  Neon can seamlessly be integrated into your wardrobe resulting in eye catching fearless ensembles.  Scroll for blindingly fabulous inspiration.

Neon

Neon is everywhere! It’s like a fabulous homage to the 90s, but with better execution.  Because I grew up in the 90s and love neon this week is dedicated to neon.  Neon is anything but subtle and that is what’s so wonderful about it.  Some might fear neon because of its blinding brightness, but this is the exact reason to embrace it.  Whether you choose neon accessories or clothes, by donning neon your look instantly becomes an eye catching show stopper.  Oh and did I mention, neon makes you look more tan!

Top: Staring at Stars (Old), Pants: AG for Anthropologie, Shoes: Aqua (found here), Watch: Michael Kors, Rings & Bracelets: Random Assortment, Necklace: Na’Hoku, Sunglasses: Loft (found here), Purse (in the background): Rebecca Minkoff

These pants are my fav because they are super comfortable, blinding, and can easily be dressed up or down…perfect for every occasion, almost!
