Holiday Attire

The Holiday Season has finally arrived! This year has been an incredible whirlwind and it is hard to believe we are here already, but I love it!  I love that everyone seems to be a little more cheerful, everything is decorated and people are constantly dressed in festive attire.  When dressing for holiday festivities I tend to turn to reds and sparkle to stay within the theme of the season.  It seems as if flannel is here to stay and that luckily, sequins and tastefully glittered clothing aren’t going anymore, which means you must have something holiday appropriate in your closet.  Stick with the holiday classics but make sure to pair it with a modern piece to bring your ensemble current.  As always, I turn to leather, but there are so many incredible options to turn to to update your festive attire.

Wedding Guest Fashion: Black Tie

My life has completely been taken over by weddings!  By the end of September I will pretty much be able to add professional wedding guest/bridal party member to my resume.  Weddings are the ultimate party and the most special of celebrations.  Everyone is happy, ready to have a good time and you can feel the love in the air.  Weddings are also so wonderful because they provide the perfect opportunity to dress up, which if you are a follower of the blog you know I love to do.  Dressing fabulously and flawlessly for weddings can be tricky  at times and because of this I decided to put together a weeklong Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide.

To put this post together I turned to some of D.C.’s glamour staples.  Carine’s Bridal Atelier provided the gorgeous dresses.  I also sat down with Carine and chatted with her about wedding trends, bridal market, her beautiful boutique and so much more.  For the video of this interview head over to Carine’s blog & Facebook page.  For the baubles I, of course, turned to Charm Georgetown & Fornash.  As you know accessories provide the perfect finishing touch to each look and must be given as much attention as the clothes themselves.  Special thank you to Jackie from Charm for graciously opening up her store to me and helping me complete each ensemble.  Also, in case you missed it check out my exclusive (vintage) interview with Jackie here.  For the hair I turned to none other than Drybar.  This was my first Drybar experience and it was absolutely amazing!  The staff was super friendly and knowledgable, the atmosphere was absolute perfection and of course the blow out was impeccable.  My stylist even instructed me on how to secure an easy and fabulous up do.  I could not recommend Drybar more highly!

And now for today’s wedding look feature….the black tie wedding.  Black tie is less common, but with that said it is virtually impossible to make it through wedding season without being invited to one black tie wedding.  I love long dresses so I jump at the opportunity to wear a long gown.  Floor length gowns are also the most appropriate for a black tie wedding or function, but a shorter dress can work, but really go long, when else will you be able to!  Long gowns are also flattering for all body types and just truly stunning.

The draping of the dress is incredible, but also calls for an up do. Always make sure your hair complements the gown.

One of the most magical things about this gown is that the bottom is sequins with a chiffon overlay, which gives the gown a subdued sparkle.

Peplum forever

Peplum, my latest obsession is so wonderful, because it creates the most flattering silhouette and literally works with all body types!  Another reason I love peplum is because it is so versatile.  Not only can it be dressed up or down, but you can have a peplum top, dress, skirt or pants!  There are so many ways for you to integrate this trend into your wardrobe the list is endless and fabulous!

Oscars 2013 Best Dressed

The magical night that we have all been waiting for has finally arrived!  Dresses are snatched fresh off the runways of fashion weeks worldwide and placed onto Hollywood’s ultimate runway, the Academy Awards Red Carpet.  The real excitement for me is the red carpet, obviously I care about the big awards and I always root for my favorite movies, but the red carpet is really where it’s at.  Similar to the awards, I have my fashion favorites and I root for their red carpet success and my must sees this year did not disappoint. In the spirit of true glitz and glamour sheer, sequins, sparkle, tulle, and texture dominated the carpet this year!  I hope you enjoy my favorites from this years Oscars Red Carpet and feel inspired to embrace some of this glamour into your every day life.

Inauguration Weekend

Happy Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Weekend!  As I put this post together, I am also getting ready for my second Inaugural Ball of the weekend, but I want to be sure to share the fun from Texas’ Blacktie & Boots Ball that I attended on Saturday.  For the Blacktie & Boots Ball I rented my very first dress from Rent the Runway and I am obsessed!  What an awesome idea, and it was absolutely perfect for this occasion and will definitely come in handy during wedding season.  Also for this Ball, my incredible hair dresser, Ryan (who contributed to my gift guide), did my hair in 1920’s Hollywood inspired waves, which went perfectly with my blindingly glitzy Badgley Mischka dress.  Stayed tuned for the hairdo “how to,” which will be up later this week.

Inauguration News

It’s almost Inauguration Day.  A day the marks new beginnings and a day that in so many ways embodies hope.  Hope that things will be better, that a divided Congress will rise against their differences in the interest of our country, and that progress (which is a very loaded word) will be made.  All of this hope, thankfully, leads to celebration!  This weekend is jam packed with Inaugural Balls that will be attended by the first family, high-level government officials, Congressmen, DC wonks, out of towners, and people simply looking for a good time.  There is so much excitement surrounding this weekend and the biggest question on everyone’s minds is not about politics, but about fashion.  The best-kept secret in Washington right now is who Michelle Obama will be wearing for the official Inaugural Balls and I cannot wait to find out the answer!  Four years ago Michelle donned an incredible Jason Wu gown that catapulted him to fame and solidified her status as a style icon.  The next question on ball attendees’ minds is what to wear!  This weekend in DC is the equivalent to Hollywood’s Red Carpet Award’s Season and everyone wants to be on the best-dressed list!  This past Tuesday, I had the honor of modeling an incredible Tadashi Shoji gown on CBS’s morning news in a Inaugural fashion segment styled by Carine’s Bridal and local fashion bloggers.  Please enjoy the behind the scenes pics from the most glamorous morning of all time (our call time was 4am, yes you read that correctly) and find inspiration in these beautiful gowns and baubles!
