The Printed Pant

The printed pant is back in a big way, bringing lightness, depth, and excitement to spring wear.  I love the printed pant because it allows you to experiment with texture, color, and of course pattern.  I am obsessed with bold prints and really can’t get enough (peruse these old posts to see the full extent of my love).  The printed pant is so special, because it is unexpected, making the piece even more eye catching.  You can also take the look in so many directions: you can pair your bold print with a more subtle counterpart or mix and match prints for a truly dazzling ensemble.  Printed pants can seem intimidating, but don’t be scared, instead play with proportion, tightness, lengths, and size of patterns.  Find what fits you and your style best and embrace this bold trend.

I love me some skinny pants and these are the perfect length for heels. I also cuff them when wearing the pants with flats or booties.

I chose to pair a semi subdued top with these bold pants, to ensure that the pants were the main focus. I do LOVE the leather detailing of the peplum top though.

These pics were taken in the picturesque Charlottesville, VA at my sister’s house.  I’m sure there will be more pictures taken in cville on a much sunnier and less dreary day.

Peplum forever

Peplum, my latest obsession is so wonderful, because it creates the most flattering silhouette and literally works with all body types!  Another reason I love peplum is because it is so versatile.  Not only can it be dressed up or down, but you can have a peplum top, dress, skirt or pants!  There are so many ways for you to integrate this trend into your wardrobe the list is endless and fabulous!

Oversized Sweater: The Winter Uniform

This winter I am living in my super cozy oversized sweaters.  The secret to finding the perfect oversized sweater is gender bending and shopping in the men’s department.  As you’ve seen from previous posts, I am a huge proponent of menswear for women.  Oversized doesn’t mean overpowering, which is something you must keep in mind when shopping in the men’s department.  The key to successfully pulling off men’s clothing is proportion and respecting your body.  I tend to pair oversized with tight allowing you to still show off your figure, while also emphasizing the oversized article.  When shopping for your oversized garment remember that the piece must be large enough to achieve the desired effect, but not so large that you drown in it.  Keep in mind you don’t have to buy a men’s sweater to find oversized, but it is my go to.  So please embrace my winter uniform and get cozy and fabulous at the same time, who ever thought those two words would be in the same sentence.

Another key to beating the chilly winds are oversized scarves.

Proportion is crucial when wearing menswear.

Pairing the white sweater with a printed camo pant brings a little more excitement to the ensemble.

Winter Printed Pant

The printed pant is a trend that has transitioned from spring to fall, but with this transition comes an evolution of the printed pant.  Fall and winter normally boast more somber colors than warmer months and when it comes to the bold print this is no exception.  Laura (a buyer for macy’s.com and the star contributor from my last post) rocked a demur and subtle printed pant demonstrating the importance of updating trends in order to keep them relevant.  This is not to say that color should be avoided as it starts to get chilly–just that you must be mindful.  Styling is also crucial to the success of the printed pant, making sure to remember the print is the star of the look.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, history was made today!  President Obama was re-elected as our President and same-sex marriage was approved in Maryland and Maine! I am so proud of my country!

Loving this pant and the conservative black turtleneck. This pant could also be part of a bolder pairing, either way it’s perfect.  The embellishments are also to die for!

As seen in a previous post, camo is huge this season and is different take on the printed pant. I am also always in search of the perfect winter sweater and this oxblood turtleneck looks like cozy perfection!

The vertical stripes are slimming and elongating (this is a helpful tip to remember). I also love love love the jacket!

Winter Printed Pant

This post is dedicated to the winter printed pant.  Laura, who has been one of my best friends for 13 years is also a buyer for Macy’s.com and was kind enough to contribute to GofG.  I also conducted a brief interview with Laura who is immersed in fashion, style, fabrics and glamour all day everyday.  Please enjoy the printed pant, as interpreted, modeled and styled by Laura, as well as an interview with someone on the forefront of fashion.

Pants: Rag & Bone (found here), Shirt: Splendid (old, similar found here), Jacket: Vintage, Bag: Marc Jacobs (old, similar found here), Shoes: Prada (old, similar found here)

I am completely obsessed with these pants and love the simple styling – very classic yet edgy

These pants are super fab and also a fun play on the tuxedo pant

1. Tell me about the trend you are representing.

I am representing a take on the “printed” bottom trend.  Going into fall it can be difficult to wear all over printed bottoms, the side detailing on the pants is a great way to transform the printed bottom and make it more fall appropriate

2. Where would you wear this look?

This look is a great transition piece from day to night.  I can wear it in the office with an item jacket and then take the look out at night with a tank top.

3. What are your favorite trends this fall?

I have two favorite trends this fall – boots and item jackets, I can’t get enough of either!

4. What do you look for when buying a product for Macys.com?

Specialness and saleability.  I want product that is unique yet saleable to a wide variety of customers at a great price.

5. What is your go to article of clothing at the moment?

My Plomo fringe boots and the infamous green Zara jacket with leather sleeves.

6. What can’t you leave your house without?

I can’t leave the house without my iphone – I am spotify obsessed and I can’t be far from my music, it’s essential in NYC since you walk most places.

7. Who are your favorite designers?

I am obsessed with Isabelle Marant though I usually can’t afford her clothing.  I am also obsessed with David Neville and Marcus Wainright of Rag and Bone – I would say 90% of the clothing I have purchased this fall has been theirs.

8. What was your latest purchase?

I most recently bought a ring from Fragments in Soho.  It was way over my budget but I just had to have it.  My test for if I really have to have something is if I sleep on it and still want it the next day.

9. What is on your wish list this season?

I am dying for a Celine bag but I doubt that will ever happen.  I also really want a pair of Sergio Rossi pointed toe pumps which may have to get purchased soon 🙂

FNO Georgetown (InstaStyle)

This past Thursday marked an important evening in the fashion world, a night where people put on their finest and roamed the streets in search of a party, a good deal and with hopes of being noticed.  This magical night that I am describing is Fashion’s Night Out, which is really just a celebration of all things fabulous and oh yes, spending.  This was my first FNO and I had a wonderful time!  I saw some incredibly inspirational outfits, met some marvelous people, and may or may not have purchased a few things (all in the name of the economy, right?).  Please enjoy my FNO Georgetown as seen through the lovely lens of Instagram.

Top: old, Pants: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Cuff: Gift, Necklace: BCBG (found here), Clutch: Gigee Marie (similar found here)

Details of the evening. Rings: BCBG (old) & Annie Cream Cheese

Clearly, I am a fan of the black and white combo! I am obsessed with these pants that at first glance could pass as a skirt!

Love the intricate sequins and beading patterns. I also love the unexpected fur accessory add on.

Looking fabulous in sequins, chambray, & motorcycle boots

Brave pairing of stripes and leopard

Best dressed couple of the evening! Kevin Gray of MensStylePoint.

Obsessed with each element of these ensembles.

Fab fall accents

My dear friend Sadie looking incredible in a sparkly beaded skirt, paired for perfection with a sheer flowy blouse
