The 90s Revisited

As I’m sure you have noticed, the 90s are back in a big way!  Fashion recycles and borrows from previous decades paying homage to the past while looking forward by changing accents, modernizing silhouettes, altering hemlines, and updating fabrics.  All of which is done in an attempt to keep things fresh and fashion moving forward, however in a bizarre way fashion is just as much about its regression as it is about progression.  Everywhere I turn now all I see is 90s!  Cropped tops, acid wash, flannel, and ripped jeans dominate street style, which are all staples of the 90s fashion.  I must admit the 90s had its fair share of fashion disasters, but I am excited for the 90s do-ver.  What about you, do you think these trends deserve revisiting?

Wedding Guest Fashion: Black Tie

My life has completely been taken over by weddings!  By the end of September I will pretty much be able to add professional wedding guest/bridal party member to my resume.  Weddings are the ultimate party and the most special of celebrations.  Everyone is happy, ready to have a good time and you can feel the love in the air.  Weddings are also so wonderful because they provide the perfect opportunity to dress up, which if you are a follower of the blog you know I love to do.  Dressing fabulously and flawlessly for weddings can be tricky  at times and because of this I decided to put together a weeklong Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide.

To put this post together I turned to some of D.C.’s glamour staples.  Carine’s Bridal Atelier provided the gorgeous dresses.  I also sat down with Carine and chatted with her about wedding trends, bridal market, her beautiful boutique and so much more.  For the video of this interview head over to Carine’s blog & Facebook page.  For the baubles I, of course, turned to Charm Georgetown & Fornash.  As you know accessories provide the perfect finishing touch to each look and must be given as much attention as the clothes themselves.  Special thank you to Jackie from Charm for graciously opening up her store to me and helping me complete each ensemble.  Also, in case you missed it check out my exclusive (vintage) interview with Jackie here.  For the hair I turned to none other than Drybar.  This was my first Drybar experience and it was absolutely amazing!  The staff was super friendly and knowledgable, the atmosphere was absolute perfection and of course the blow out was impeccable.  My stylist even instructed me on how to secure an easy and fabulous up do.  I could not recommend Drybar more highly!

And now for today’s wedding look feature….the black tie wedding.  Black tie is less common, but with that said it is virtually impossible to make it through wedding season without being invited to one black tie wedding.  I love long dresses so I jump at the opportunity to wear a long gown.  Floor length gowns are also the most appropriate for a black tie wedding or function, but a shorter dress can work, but really go long, when else will you be able to!  Long gowns are also flattering for all body types and just truly stunning.

One of the most magical things about this gown is that the bottom is sequins with a chiffon overlay, which gives the gown a subdued sparkle.

Oscars 2013 Best Dressed

The magical night that we have all been waiting for has finally arrived!  Dresses are snatched fresh off the runways of fashion weeks worldwide and placed onto Hollywood’s ultimate runway, the Academy Awards Red Carpet.  The real excitement for me is the red carpet, obviously I care about the big awards and I always root for my favorite movies, but the red carpet is really where it’s at.  Similar to the awards, I have my fashion favorites and I root for their red carpet success and my must sees this year did not disappoint. In the spirit of true glitz and glamour sheer, sequins, sparkle, tulle, and texture dominated the carpet this year!  I hope you enjoy my favorites from this years Oscars Red Carpet and feel inspired to embrace some of this glamour into your every day life.

Best Dressed of the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Finally, awards season has arrived! Between the red carpet and the big show, it’s definitely a toss up for what I enjoy most.  This season these A-listers brought their A-game, delivering high glitz and drama on the red carpet, with high slits, red, black, sequins and cleavage stealing the show.

Maxing out

The star of street style this fall is the maxi!  Everywhere I turn I see the maxi flawlessly paired with leather coats, utility jackets, and oversized cozy sweaters.  The way to successfully pull off the fall maxi is to respect proportions and make sure the maxi is the centerpiece of the look.

Nude part II

This time of year is exciting for fashion, because you are able to combine summer and winter wardrobes, as well as get one more use out of your soon to be out of season clothes.  This week has been unseasonably warm, making it the perfect opportunity to mix whites and nudes.  I was able to squeeze one more wear out of my favorite white blazer before it is tucked away for the coming months.  And while the outfit featured in this post, seemingly errs on the side of summer, remember that nude is one of the official colors of fall.

Disclaimer: I am also using this post to shamelessly share with the world my adorable new puppy, who is the real star of the shoot.

Blazer: Theory (last season, similar here), Dress: French Connection (found here), Shoes: Aldo (last season)

This dress could easily be worn with thick tights and a different blazer making it winter ready

Pairing the light ensemble with lace up oxfords helps translate this outfit to fall
