Wedding Guest Fashion: Formal & Cocktail

I think it is fair to say that the most common dress code for weddings is formal or cocktail attire therefore today’s Spring/Summer Wedding Guest Dress for Success Guide is dedicated to the broad spectrum that is formal wedding wear.  Formal is wonderful because you can go short or long (and you know how much I love long).  Formal is of course a step down from black tie and lends itself to many different styles, silhouettes, colors and fabrics.  And cocktail is a slight step below formal.  However, when experimenting with fabrics and volumes always be mindful of the location of the wedding and if it is indoor or outdoor.  Take it from someone who tends to overheat quickly, the last thing you want is to be stuck outside in an oppressively heavy dress.  With that said play around and find what works best for you, your body type, the venue, and make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to dance the night away in.

A very special thank you to my fabulous collaborators that made this post possible!  Thank you Carine’s Bridal Atelier for providing the gorgeous gowns, Charm & Fornash for the flawless baubles, and Drybar for the beautiful blow out!

Marchesa Garden of Glam

One of the most amazing things about spring/summer wear is that brights are always in. Make sure that one aspect of your ensemble is a true stand out.

Marchesa

Just because the dress is bold does not mean you have to shy away from accessories and bling!

The exaggerated fan sleeve is my absolute favorite! Because there are a lot of components to the dress a more conservative hemline is crucial.

Back in Black (and White)

I know I have already featured black and white for spring, but I seriously can’t get enough!  Black and white is classic while also being fashion forward, making it timeless.  I also love this trend, because anyone can rock it and the components are already in your closet.  I love me some color, but black and white is currently my uniform (this also might have something to do with the painfully frigid weather). Black and white is so fabulous because you can take it in many different directions, it can be graphic, you can mix prints, you can color block, go fancy or casual, which is exactly what I am doing in today’s post.  So embrace my uniform and get ready for spring.

Brocade with love

This week is all about love and as I said before, I am in love with brocade! I love brocade’s incredible ornate detailing, the audacious color combinations, and unique fabrics.  Brocade is like elaborately decorated armor that helps you dazzle your way through the day and when it comes to brocade the bolder the better, which makes me love it even more! I love mixing prints and highly recommend this with brocade, but if you are feeling a little timid pair brocade with a neutral color and of course, always mix textures!

Inauguration Weekend

Happy Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Weekend!  As I put this post together, I am also getting ready for my second Inaugural Ball of the weekend, but I want to be sure to share the fun from Texas’ Blacktie & Boots Ball that I attended on Saturday.  For the Blacktie & Boots Ball I rented my very first dress from Rent the Runway and I am obsessed!  What an awesome idea, and it was absolutely perfect for this occasion and will definitely come in handy during wedding season.  Also for this Ball, my incredible hair dresser, Ryan (who contributed to my gift guide), did my hair in 1920’s Hollywood inspired waves, which went perfectly with my blindingly glitzy Badgley Mischka dress.  Stayed tuned for the hairdo “how to,” which will be up later this week.

Ombre of Sequins

Happy New Year!! This post is dedicated to New Year’s Eve, 2013, the future, all things great and my blindingly blinged out outfit.  As always, glitter was the theme of the night and I always dress for the occasion.  I hope everyone had an incredible New Year’s Eve and that 2013 brings you all the best!

Pants: BCBG (similar found here), Blouse: BCBG (similar found here), Coat: Forever 21 (similar found here), Shoes: BCBG (similar found here), Bag: Vintage (similar found here), Necklace: NaHoku (similar found here)

This is definitely one of the sparkliest NYE outfits I have ever worn, which is really saying a lot. The matte sequins almost have a liquid effect perfectly complimenting the architectural bold sequins pants.

Something about these pieces says 20s to me, yet the pants are unlike anything I've ever seen. I also had to incorporate a little ombre of sequins and different shades of gold into the look.
