Classic Stripes

The unbeatable, classic, eye-catching black and white combination has taken over my blog this spring/summer and I am OK with it.  The fusion of these opposites has a stark breathtaking effect, which looks different depending on how you rock it allowing you to really make this combo your own.  Stripes are a sartorial staple this spring/summer channeling a preppy nautical vibe that can have a hint of edge depending on how you you style it.  Not surprisingly, I opted for edge over prep for the G.L.A.M. Charity Fashion Event benefiting Safe Shores DC.  For the second annual G.L.A.M. charity fashion event that I planned and hosted with my G.L.A.M. partner District Sparkle’s Meaghan, I turned to my favorite “trends” black and white, stripes, a figure accentuating body con dress and a pop of neon.  When dressing for any occasion comfort and attitude is key, which is why I turned to my trusty favs.  Always remember the clothes aren’t wearing you, you are wearing the clothes and let your personality and confidence shine through.

Dress: Torn by Ronny Kobo (found here & on sale!), Shoes: c/o Aldo Shoes (found here & on sale!)

Braids

It’s hard to tell because my hair is so dark, but I used a french braid to secure this side do

Neon

I could not be more obsessed with these shoes! They are the perfect statement piece for any look and I love the pop of neon that glows in the dark!

G.L.A.M. Charity Fashion Event

I have been a horrible blogger recently, neglecting Garden of Glam, and slacking on creating new posts.  I do hope you will forgive me or at least allow me to explain.  I am the Director of Operations for G.L.A.M. (Giving Labels a Meaning).  G.L.A.M. combines a love of fashion with the desire to help children in need.  So through pop-up shops and exclusive fashion events, Meaghan (G.L.A.M.’s founder & creator of District Sparkle) and I raise money for local child advocacy groups.  And right now we are in the thick of planning the G.L.A.M. Summer Fashion Event on June 20th from 6:30-9 at 906 H St., NE that will benefit Safe Shores D.C.  Safe Shores D.C. is an incredible organization that is dedicated to protecting children that have been exposed to abuse, trauma, & violence.  And 100% of the proceeds from the event will be donated directly to Safe Shores D.C.

The G.L.A.M. Fashion Event will feature pop up shops from local boutiques and designers such as Bishop Boutique, Turquoise and Drabo Gallery an amazing raffle, open bar, and DJ MIM will be bumping beats all night while fellow bloggers Keri, Rachel, Erin, and Simone model in the fashion presentation.

So needless to say I have been a bit busier than usual and I do hope you will forgive me for (momentarily) putting Garden of Glam in the backseat.

Again, in case you missed the important details the G.L.A.M. Fashion Event is June 20th from 6:30-9:00 at 906 H St., NE.  Get your tickets HERE for the reasonable price of $10 for GA and $30 for VIP (which comes with our fabulous swag bags).  Again, get your tickets HERE!

I hope you will join me (on June 20th) in supporting local boutiques & designers in a fight against child abuse!

Holiday Gift Guide

This Holiday Season Garden of Glam will be dedicated to making your lives a whole lot easier!  With the help of other bloggers, fashionistas, chefs & DC stars I have compiled a thorough and accessible holiday gift guide.  I absolutely love this time of year, not only because there are twinkle lights on every tree and “Love Actually” is always on TV and Christmas carols are played on the radio, but also because there is extra cheer in the air as everyone gets in the Holiday Spirit.  With that said, this can also be a stressful time of year.  I normally drive myself absolutely insane trying to find the perfect gift for loved ones and spend weeks scouring the internet, malls, and stores in search of THE gift.  So I would like to help you out this year and hopefully save you some of the stress that inevitably comes with this magical season.  Each day Garden of Glam will host a different contributor who was kind enough to share their wish list and gift list with me (and you) in an attempt to inspire and ease your holiday shopping.  So sit back and relax and let Garden of Glam act as your compass as you navigate your way through this holiday season.

Day One of the Garden of Glam Holiday Gift Guide: Meaghan (District Sparkle)

Meaghan is the ultra fabulous blogger behind District Sparkle and G.L.A.M. (Giving Labels a Meaning).  G.L.A.M., which Meaghan is the founder of and yours truly is the Director of Operations of, is an organization that uses fashion as a way to raise money for local child advocacy groups.  G.L.A.M.’s Inaugural Fashion Event raised money for CASA DC, a non profit that works with children in the foster care system, by bringing together local vendors and fashionistas.  Stay tuned for details for the next G.L.A.M. event!
