Summer Head Scarf

I am slightly obsessed with scarves!  It is actually kind of shocking that this is my first post dedicated to them.  I live in scarves in the Fall, Winter and Spring but have had a hard time incorporating them into my ensembles in the stifling summer heat until now.  The easy and perfect for summer solution: the head scarf!  Why I have not embraced the head scarf sooner I do not know.  There are so many ways to rock a head scarf allowing you to elevate your look to a whole new level.  The gorgeous scarf featured in today’s post that inspired me to experiment and ultimately embrace the head scarf was a gift from none other than Tadashi Shoji.  Not only was my interview with him life changing, this gift was as well.  The head scarf adds vibrance to any outfit making it the perfect finishing touch!  As I plan to incorporate this into as many looks as possible, I highly recommend you experiment and find the wrap that suits you best!

The Printed Pant (II)

As I’ve said before, I love a printed pant for spring!  Well really, I love it for any season!  It is a statement piece that adds a pop of pizzazz to any ensemble!  If it isn’t already, a bold print should be a staple in your closet!  Rocking an expected print shows you have confidence and of course style.  In my book, it is the new LBD, but it is better, because rocking a bold print allows you stand out from the crowd.  A bold print is also perfect for any occasion and let’s be real, nothing is better than a well tailored pant!

Denim on Denim

The Texas Tuxedo (also known as a Canadian Tuxedo, but I am partial to Texas because that is where my mom is from) cycles its way in and very far out of style, luckily it is IN (in all caps) this spring.  Like all cyclical trends the key to success is taste and fit.  If something is done tastefully it never goes out of style.  Denim on denim can be tricky and if done incorrectly can get a lot of judgmental stares, but when done right it is absolute perfection!  The trick? Making sure the denims do NOT match!  Go with two different shades and you are set for success.  This is also a gender neutral trend so to all my male readers out there, jump on this band wagon!

Menswear Spring Preview

My latest (and greatest) collaboration is a menswear spring preview featuring Kirven Boyd and Antonio Douthit, two incredibly talented, graceful, and wonderful dancers from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  Alvin Ailey was recently performing at the iconic Kennedy Center and Antonio and Kirven were kind enough to take time out of their incredibly busy schedules, which were jam packed with rehearsals and performances to model this Spring/Summer’s hottest trends.  I danced most of my life and spent a great deal of my childhood in studios so I absolutely jumped at the opportunity to work with such brilliant dancers.  My inspiration for the photo shoot was the fluidity and grace of dance juxtaposed with rigidity and grind of daily life.  And I have to say I could not be happier with how everything turned out!

To outfit the shoot I turned to one of my favorite shops, Buffalo Exchange who graciously lent us incredible pieces that showcased the hottest trends for spring.  Durkl, an independent American streetwear brand whose flagship store will be opening in DC shortly, went above beyond and sent hot items from their latest line.  And finally to photograph this spread I turned to Abby Jiu, one of my favorite photographers who has the most stunning eye!  I would also like to give a special thank you to Rise Events for letting me use the historic Powerhouse as the backdrop and my dear friend Sadie for introducing me to Kirven and Antonio, who without which this post would not have been possible.  It seriously takes a village!

Stay tuned all week for more fabulous ensembles and incredible moves!

Brocade with love

This week is all about love and as I said before, I am in love with brocade! I love brocade’s incredible ornate detailing, the audacious color combinations, and unique fabrics.  Brocade is like elaborately decorated armor that helps you dazzle your way through the day and when it comes to brocade the bolder the better, which makes me love it even more! I love mixing prints and highly recommend this with brocade, but if you are feeling a little timid pair brocade with a neutral color and of course, always mix textures!

Thanksgiving Fur

This post is dedicated to my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.  The key to dressing for success on Thanksgiving is embracing comfortable, stretchy clothes.  Go Try It On, one of my favorite fashion apps, asked me to put a Thanksgiving outfit together that is fabulous and forgiving of seconds. Every Thanksgiving my family goes around the table and says what they are thankful for and like every year, I am thankful for my family and friends.  I am thankful for their support, love, laughs, strength and traditions.  The moments I share with them mean everything!

I hope everyone had an incredible Thanksgiving with loved ones and, of course, enjoyed extra helpings.

Vest: Adrienne Landau (last season, similar found here), Pants: BDG (old, similar found here), Shirt: Vanishing Elephant (found here), Shoes: Zara (old, similar found here), Bracelets: Random Assortment, some of which are Aldo and Urban Outfitters (found here and here), Watch: Michael Kors (found here), Necklaces: NaHoku & Gorjana (found here)

These pants are absolutely my favorite and I wear them with everything! They are also super stretchy which makes them perfect for Thanksgiving.

This shirt is another one of my favs. I love chambray and because this is a mens shirt it is the perfect amount of oversized.

A vest can completely transform a look and fur just takes it to another level.
