Holiday Gift Guide

Day Fifteen of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide

Today is the fifteenth and final day of Garden of Glam’s Gift Guide and the special guest is none other than your curator of all things fabulous, me.  I hope you have enjoyed the gift guide as much as I have and have been inspired by my incredible guests and their creative, unique, and swoon worthy wish and give lists.  The downside to compiling this gift guide is that my wish list has tripled, but on the upside this has been the most stress free shopping season EVER.  Not to brag, but I finished all of my Christmas shopping with time to spare, this has literally never happened to me before.  But fear not shopping delinquents, there is still time for overnight delivery and of course shopping in a store.

I want to thank all of my wonderful contributors–this absolutely would not have been possible without you!!  Thank you thank you thank you and Happy Holidays!!

Polaroid Instant Digital Camera.  I am totally obsessed with this camera!  It’s time to bring back the polaroid, they are the definition of instant gratification and there is something about polaroids that just makes the pictures better!  So amazing!  This is on my wish & give list this season and would be perfect for a significant other, sibling, friend, roommate or cousin.

Cole Haan Cassidy Bootie.  I have been in search of the perfect black bootie all fall/winter and I have finally found it!  They are the perfect height for every day wear and I love that they have a brown heel.  They also use Nike Air technology, which I’m assuming means they are the most comfortable shoe to ever exist.  These are at the top of my wish list!  Perfect for a significant other, sibling, cousin or friend.

Warby Parker Preston Glasses.  Warby Parker is such an incredible company! Not only do they have stylish, flattering glasses that are reasonably priced, they also donate a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that is sold.  I currently wear the Zagg frames and am excited to add Preston into the rotation.  This would be a great gift for a glasses wearing friend who likes to mix things up.  And don’t worry about finding the perfect frame as a gift, you can also buy gift certificates and they make amazing sunglasses now!

Kindle from Amazon.  This is a practical and thoughtful gift (and also on my wish list).  Kindle’s are wonderful, because they are light weight, you can download anything instantly on them, and you can adjust the font size making it a perfect gift for people that have vision problems.  I prefer the original kindle to the fire, because there isn’t any back lighting making it easier on the eyes.

Tickets to Book of Mormon on Broadway.  My boyfriend is literally the hardest person to shop for in the whole entire world and I normally strike out when I buy him material things so I have moved on to experiences.  This year I bought us tickets to see Book of Mormon on Broadway, something that he has been dying to see.  Obviously, you don’t have to buy tickets to this show specifically, but check out what’s at the Kennedy Center!  I love going to the ballet and try to see Alvin Ailey whenever they are in town, not your thing?  What about the symphony or a play?

Smart Wool Socks.  These get me through the winter every year.  I went to college in Wisconsin and quickly had to learn how to adapt to the subzero winters and these saved me!  They come in different thicknesses and lengths and are perfect for boots.  I also have a pair of Smart Wool gloves that are to die for!  This is a gender neutral gift that you can give to anyone in your life!

Day 10.5 of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide: Samantha (Marketing for Warehouse)

Warehouse and Oasis are fabulous UK street style fashion brands that are finally expanding to the U.S.!  Samantha is the E-commerce and Marketing Assistant for Warehouse.  Living in London, Samantha is inspired by the fearless approach to fashion that comes from living in one of the world’s style cities (mark my words, DC will be on that list one day!).  Warehouse and Oasis perfectly reflect London’s fearless approach to style and make fashion affordable.  I am very excited to collaborate with Warehouse and Oasis so stayed tuned for future W&O features and enjoy this promotion and an introduction to their brand!

As a reminder, I have asked each contributor to share what’s on their wish list and give list this holiday season with the hope of making your holiday shopping a little easier.

Winter Printed Pant

The printed pant is a trend that has transitioned from spring to fall, but with this transition comes an evolution of the printed pant.  Fall and winter normally boast more somber colors than warmer months and when it comes to the bold print this is no exception.  Laura (a buyer for macy’s.com and the star contributor from my last post) rocked a demur and subtle printed pant demonstrating the importance of updating trends in order to keep them relevant.  This is not to say that color should be avoided as it starts to get chilly–just that you must be mindful.  Styling is also crucial to the success of the printed pant, making sure to remember the print is the star of the look.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, history was made today!  President Obama was re-elected as our President and same-sex marriage was approved in Maryland and Maine! I am so proud of my country!

Loving this pant and the conservative black turtleneck. This pant could also be part of a bolder pairing, either way it’s perfect.  The embellishments are also to die for!

As seen in a previous post, camo is huge this season and is different take on the printed pant. I am also always in search of the perfect winter sweater and this oxblood turtleneck looks like cozy perfection!

Autumn Inspiration

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year.  I love when the air turns crisp, the leaves start to change, and all you need is a light jacket to stay warm.  Acting as a staple and statement with each wear, finding the perfect fall jacket is crucial to rounding out your wardrobe and this year is no different than any other.  My go to this fall is J. Crew’s utility jacket.  It is the perfect transition weight and the army green almost acts as a neutral color allowing it to easily be paired with a broad range of colors, patterns and textures.  I have no doubt that this jacket will be in everyone’s closet this fall!
This post also features my fall uniform, which is a men’s oversized shirt, leggings (and yes I am wearing them as pants, *gasp*), boots, an oversized scarf, and obvs my item jacket (which will be replaced by my leather coat as it gets chillier).  While I wear everything featured in my blog in real life (multiple times, paired with different pieces depending on my mood) this look more so than any other is the truest reflection of me.

Jacket: J. Crew (found here), Pants: Ann Taylor Loft (old, similar found here), Shirt: Simon Spurr (last season, similar found here), Scarf: Zara (old, similar found here), Boots: Jeffrey Campbell (last season, similar found here), Bag: Michael Kors (last season, similar found here)

Mixing patterns is tricky, but on trend, so an easy way to experiment is with a patterned scarf

One of the reasons I love this jacket so much is because of the gold finishing, which is accentuated by gold jewelry.

A good boot is crucial to surviving fall and winter! I love these because they add edge to any look, but the loose wrap differentiates them from the classic motorcycle boot.

Staying Warm in Style

I know it’s hard to believe that it’s still winter, but the groundhog did see his shadow–so I think it’s only fitting to dedicate a post to the chilliness to come (maybe).  Take it from a girl who went to college in Wisconsin, I know it’s easy to get lost in layers and drab colors so my keys to surviving winter are vibrant colors, sensible layers, tights, warm shoes/socks (!), and of course a fabulous scarf.

I love the bright red coat combined with the fabulous scarf and bold tights--this outfit screams confidence and is a wonderful way to keep winter interesting

The look is so classic with a bit of edge--highlighted by layered tights-socks
