New York Fashion Week (pt 1)

In case you missed my obsessive instagrams and tweets, I attended the first two days of New York Fashion Week and it was one of the most incredible experiences EVER!  I saw some beautiful, life changing fashion shows & presentations and was endlessly inspired by the unparalleled street style that can only be witnessed at Fashion Week.  Stay tuned all week for a rundown of my fashion week experience with runway pics from Tadashi Shoji, Rebecca Minkoff and Honor, exclusive looks from the Novis and Tome presentations, as well as party pics and some phenomenal celebrity sightings!  To start off my week of coverage check out what I wore to Day Two of Fashion Week.

Layers on Layers on Layers

This has been a pretty unpredictable spring and by spring I mean extended winter with a few warm days mixed in that act as a cruel tease!  I have desperately been pushing spring wear and every week I try to retire my tights, boots, and everything winter related, but sadly I have not been able to.  So it is time that I embrace this crazy weather and forgive Phil the Groundhog for lying to us all when he predicted an early spring.  I have not completely given up on spring, but must face the cold hard facts.  So my secret to surviving this crazy weather: layering!  Layering is the only way to survive an unpredictable spring and it allows you to integrate spring into your ensembles without freezing your butt off and most importantly layering can be incredibly chic.

Thigh high boots, a full skirt, leather jacket, and leopard coat, I mean it doesn't get any better than this!

I love this preppy and casual ensemble. Neon is one of my favorites and adds much needed light to this dreary weather.

The iconic item jacket is fabulous but rarely warm enough, unless layered with a cozy sweater and fabulous scarf.

Denim on denim, you know how much I love this classic trend and a jean jacket is a must for spring.

The Varsity Jacket

After a brief hiatus I am bringing back street style InstaGlam.  Today’s InstaGlam pic is courtesy of the fabulous Audrey Cotton, who I cornered and photographed at the Fundrise Investor party event.  Audrey is flawlessly rocking the varsity jacket.  The look is such a great success because she pairs the bulky classic piece with a sleek black maxi and cropped top (another one of my obsessions for spring).  This look is daring and fabulous!

*Semi-disclaimer: the reason I took a mini InstaGlam break is because the quality of the pictures can sometimes be questionable because they are taken with my phone and normally in a setting with less than ideal lighting.  So please forgive the shotty camera work, because this outfit was just too amazing to not share*

InstaGlam

Happy Holidays!! This edition of InstaGlam is dedicated to a fabulous fashionista I met at my brother’s birthday party.  Jocelyn looked absolutely incredible in leather and pleats, a stunning and unexpected combination.  Each aspect of her outfit was executed with flawless purpose, from her gold accessories to the blindingly neon shoes she was absolute perfection!  Jocelyn’s ensemble is also so fantastic because it is appropriate for many occasions and would be an absolute show stopper on New Years!

For more insta style follow me on instagram and of course twitter!

I love the contrast between the leather and pleats and how fabulous is her mani!

I love the contrast between hard (leather) and soft (pleats).  The gold accents are also do die for.

Winter Printed Pant

This post is dedicated to the winter printed pant.  Laura, who has been one of my best friends for 13 years is also a buyer for Macy’s.com and was kind enough to contribute to GofG.  I also conducted a brief interview with Laura who is immersed in fashion, style, fabrics and glamour all day everyday.  Please enjoy the printed pant, as interpreted, modeled and styled by Laura, as well as an interview with someone on the forefront of fashion.

Pants: Rag & Bone (found here), Shirt: Splendid (old, similar found here), Jacket: Vintage, Bag: Marc Jacobs (old, similar found here), Shoes: Prada (old, similar found here)

I am completely obsessed with these pants and love the simple styling – very classic yet edgy

These pants are super fab and also a fun play on the tuxedo pant

1. Tell me about the trend you are representing.

I am representing a take on the “printed” bottom trend.  Going into fall it can be difficult to wear all over printed bottoms, the side detailing on the pants is a great way to transform the printed bottom and make it more fall appropriate

2. Where would you wear this look?

This look is a great transition piece from day to night.  I can wear it in the office with an item jacket and then take the look out at night with a tank top.

3. What are your favorite trends this fall?

I have two favorite trends this fall – boots and item jackets, I can’t get enough of either!

4. What do you look for when buying a product for Macys.com?

Specialness and saleability.  I want product that is unique yet saleable to a wide variety of customers at a great price.

5. What is your go to article of clothing at the moment?

My Plomo fringe boots and the infamous green Zara jacket with leather sleeves.

6. What can’t you leave your house without?

I can’t leave the house without my iphone – I am spotify obsessed and I can’t be far from my music, it’s essential in NYC since you walk most places.

7. Who are your favorite designers?

I am obsessed with Isabelle Marant though I usually can’t afford her clothing.  I am also obsessed with David Neville and Marcus Wainright of Rag and Bone – I would say 90% of the clothing I have purchased this fall has been theirs.

8. What was your latest purchase?

I most recently bought a ring from Fragments in Soho.  It was way over my budget but I just had to have it.  My test for if I really have to have something is if I sleep on it and still want it the next day.

9. What is on your wish list this season?

I am dying for a Celine bag but I doubt that will ever happen.  I also really want a pair of Sergio Rossi pointed toe pumps which may have to get purchased soon 🙂

Black & White

Pairing black and white is basically the ultimate marriage of all things right.  These two opposites complement each other excellently, allowing for a multidimensional look that is also accessible.  So many interesting looks can be achieved with these elementary colors! So lets give a little more love to the perfect pair, black and white.

This combo allows you to wear white outside of its season and is perfect for transitional weather/seasons.

Blazer: Theory (last season, similar here), Pants: Gap (old, similar here), Top: Sparkle & Fade (old), Bag: Michael Kors (found here), Necklace: Anthropologie (old), Sunglasses: Ray Ban, Shoes: Aqua (old)

Another reason I like this look is that it can easily translate from work to happy hour or an evening event with just a switch of the shoes & accessories

Special thank you to Dzifa for his excellent photography skills!  Check out his blog here.
