Leather Track Pants

Welcome to part two of my incredible Fashion Week experience.  To kick off fashion week I went for leather track pants and my go to classic black and white.  I must admit, I was skeptical about the leather track pant, I mean it is a pretty strange combo.  The name, “track pants” implies you are on your way to the gym probably in the 90s, but the track pant is no longer reserved for the gym and is now found on runways and thank God for that because the last thing I would ever want to do in these pants is work out……holy hotness!  Once I realized these pants are really just an oxymoron, I was able to embrace them to the fullest extent and not surprisingly fell in love.

Crop Tops for Days

Dare to bare in this week’s trend, the ultra fabulous crop top!  Crop tops are everywhere this season and at first, I must admit I was a little nervous about them, but now I am in love and cannot get enough.  I try to incorporate a crop top into as many ensembles as possible, which is tricky (and not quite appropriate) considering the dress code at my office is business casual.  But I digress, I fully appreciate the initial hesitation with crop tops, but this trend is a summer must that I encourage everyone to experiment with.  There are different levels of midriff to bare and so many looks that can be achieved with this trend.  Make it your own and have fun with it!

Dare to Bare

Another summer obsession and heat wave survival essential is the crop top.  I know I said it before and dedicated a post to the 90s, but they are back in a big way and the resurgence of the crop top is another wonderful 90s trend that has reared its fabulous head.  While the 90s were dominated by grunge, the crop top has taken on a more versatile role.  Baring your midriff is not only on trend but it can also be done in a tasteful sophisticated way.  This is another trend that I constantly hear people say they cannot rock, but to the naysayers out there I say, you can do it!  As always, comfort is key so only bare what feels right to you and from there, go wild!

Classic Stripes

The unbeatable, classic, eye-catching black and white combination has taken over my blog this spring/summer and I am OK with it.  The fusion of these opposites has a stark breathtaking effect, which looks different depending on how you rock it allowing you to really make this combo your own.  Stripes are a sartorial staple this spring/summer channeling a preppy nautical vibe that can have a hint of edge depending on how you you style it.  Not surprisingly, I opted for edge over prep for the G.L.A.M. Charity Fashion Event benefiting Safe Shores DC.  For the second annual G.L.A.M. charity fashion event that I planned and hosted with my G.L.A.M. partner District Sparkle’s Meaghan, I turned to my favorite “trends” black and white, stripes, a figure accentuating body con dress and a pop of neon.  When dressing for any occasion comfort and attitude is key, which is why I turned to my trusty favs.  Always remember the clothes aren’t wearing you, you are wearing the clothes and let your personality and confidence shine through.

Can’t Get Over Overalls

I have to admit the last time I wore overalls was when I was in grade school, but boy do I miss them!  As I get older (it’s almost my birthday) it is refreshing to remember that fashion and trends are not ageist and do not discriminate.  What matters when it comes to fashion and personal style is that it reflects you, your mood, the person you want to be that day and is, of course, flattering.  With all of this in mind, I can’t wait to embrace overalls and pay homage to the days when things were less complicated and comfort was all that mattered.  For years I have been in the market for the perfect pair of short overalls and while my search is (sadly) still ongoing I think this is truly the season I will rekindle my love with this classic wardrobe staple of the 90s.

These overalls are my dream! Love the casual look & textured tee.

Loving Leather

For my interview with the iconic Tadashi Shoji I turned to one of my style staples and the timeless black and white “trend.”  I must admit I was very nervous leading up to the interview so wanted to be in something that I not only felt great in, but something I also felt comfortable in.  Now that I think about it this is quite in line with Shoji’s philosophy.  So I turned to leather.  Leather is huge this spring and is so luxurious!  If real leather isn’t your thing go for the vegan alternative, which is equally as fabulous!  I am all about mixing textures and wearing leather is the perfect way to dabble with this.  Try integrating leather into your wardrobe with an unexpected top, with a classic jacket or accessory, or just go bold and pair leather with leather.
