Day Six of Garden of Glam’s Holiday Gift Guide featuring Abby Jiu the Magnificent Photographer

Abby Jiu is the amazing photographer behind Abby Jiu Photography.  I had the absolute pleasure of working with Abby on my Alvin Ailey menswear post and to say it was a wonderful experience is a complete understatement!  Abby has the most incredible eye and is able to capture the perfect moment in the most unobtrusive way.  Abby’s finished product is always breathtaking and a true representation of beautiful moments.  Abby has been featured in Style Me Pretty, on the cover of Washingtonian Bride & Groom, The Knot and Refinery 29, just to name a few.

Psych Out

I know I already dedicated a post to psychedelic prints, but I just can’t get enough.  Psychedelic prints were everywhere this summer and have gracefully transitioned to the winter months bringing a playful brightness to the chilly and sometimes gloomy days of winter.  I am completely in love with the dress featured in today’s post because it is eye catching and incredibly versatile.  Its semi conservative above the knee hemline allows this dress to easily transition from day to night, making it a go to when I have a busy day and busy night ahead of me.  While the bold print tends to dominate at first glance the accessories cannot be ignored!  I accented this kaleidoscope frock with classic yet wonderfully sparkly baubles from my favorite local jewelry designer, Fornash.

This winter embrace the bold and  don’t shy away from color!

Silky Scarves

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year!  I love the crispness in the air, the smell of people starting to use their fireplaces, and of course fall fashion!  Nothing is better than throwing on a scarf, a light jacket, or a cozy sweater!  I must say, a good scarf is absolutely my favorite!  If DC didn’t get so damn hot in the summer, I would live in scarves year round.  So obviously this is an exciting time of year for me and it was made even more exciting by this gorgeous Echo Design scarf!  I love a bold scarf and this silk scarf is the definition of bold luxury that can literally be worn with everything!  I am obsessed with the bright colors and truly believe that a scarf is not only practical, but also an integral part of each ensemble and must be treated as such!  When donning a scarf make sure that it elevates your look, play with fabrics (I am loving that this scarf is silk, especially because it is so comfortable, lush and versatile), textures, sizes, and of course colors.  So how will you be rocking scarves this season?

New York Fashion Week (pt 1)

In case you missed my obsessive instagrams and tweets, I attended the first two days of New York Fashion Week and it was one of the most incredible experiences EVER!  I saw some beautiful, life changing fashion shows & presentations and was endlessly inspired by the unparalleled street style that can only be witnessed at Fashion Week.  Stay tuned all week for a rundown of my fashion week experience with runway pics from Tadashi Shoji, Rebecca Minkoff and Honor, exclusive looks from the Novis and Tome presentations, as well as party pics and some phenomenal celebrity sightings!  To start off my week of coverage check out what I wore to Day Two of Fashion Week.

Dare to Bare

Another summer obsession and heat wave survival essential is the crop top.  I know I said it before and dedicated a post to the 90s, but they are back in a big way and the resurgence of the crop top is another wonderful 90s trend that has reared its fabulous head.  While the 90s were dominated by grunge, the crop top has taken on a more versatile role.  Baring your midriff is not only on trend but it can also be done in a tasteful sophisticated way.  This is another trend that I constantly hear people say they cannot rock, but to the naysayers out there I say, you can do it!  As always, comfort is key so only bare what feels right to you and from there, go wild!

Black & white

I went for the classic (and my absolute favorite) black and white combo to experiment with the crop top

Shorts & Prints to beat the heat

I do not do well in the heat and as much as I love summer and all of the amazingness it has to offer, three straight weeks of 90 plus degree temperatures is just too much!  So today’s post is, once again, dedicated to ways to beat the heat this summer or at least cope with it.  Shorts are one of my major summer staples.  I actually live in shorts year round and just throw a pair of tights under them in the winter, but they are absolute perfection all on their own during the summer.  A way to elevate your shorts look is by playing with prints, fabrics and textures.  I love a good jort, but there is a whole world of shorts out there that need to explored and that is why this week is devoted to the fabulous printed short.
