Oversized Sweater

This past Saturday I explored the Monroe Street Market in Brookland and visited the Sartorialist’s Q&A/book signing.  For this super chilly Saturday, I turned to my new favorite oversized sweater.  I recently tried to clean out my closet and got overwhelmed very quickly and had to stop, but before I did I realized a lot of my wardrobe is oversized.  My go to pairing is an oversized top with skinnies of some kind, but an oversized top can work with different silhouettes and articles of clothing.  Try pairing an oversized top with a skater skirt, maxi, or boyfriend jeans.  Experiment with volume and fabrics and find your cozy, stylish weekend go to ensemble.

Brights and Cut Outs

I’m at a point in my life where a good dress can go a long way.  I have a wedding pretty much every other weekend and when I’m not at a wedding I’m at an event.  This past weekend I had the incredible honor of attending the 50th anniversary of the Institute for Policy Studies, an uber liberal, progressive think tank that was co-founded by my father 50 years ago.  IPS has served as an invaluable resource and advocate for social justice, always fighting for equality and human rights.  I grew up with IPS as a part of my extended family, a family that was made up of the brightest, most forward-thinking, determined, brilliant minds to ever exist.  I was completely overwhelmed with pride and love this weekend, and for the gala that was the culmination of the awe inspiring anniversary I turned to one of my favorite dresses of the season a bold orange, asymmetrical hemline dress with subtle cut outs.  I wanted to go with something that was appropriate for the occasion, as well as a show stopper.  This is normally my goal for all events I attend.  As always confidence is the ultimate accessory that truly makes the ensemble.  Make sure you are comfortable in whatever outfit you don for an event and as always go bold.

Most importantly, Congratulations IPS on 50 years of fighting the progressive fight!

Tasty Peanut Butter, Chocolatey, Coconutty Treats

I recently started a new job and I am out and about in the city everyday.  This can pose a problem for eating at traditional times, which can sometimes be rough for me.  I have a confession to make, if I don’t eat regularly I turn into a grumpy six year old.  If I miss a meal because I’m on the go, I suddenly find myself on the verge of a temper tantrum.  It is a serious problem, but after many years, I have found that the solution is always having a snack on hand.  This embarrassing fact about me and my new job have inspired me to experiment with delicious solutions to this problem.

For today’s post I made scrumptious peanut butter, coconut, chocolate energy balls.  This recipe is super easy and perfect for healthy (ish) snacking!

Silky Scarves

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year!  I love the crispness in the air, the smell of people starting to use their fireplaces, and of course fall fashion!  Nothing is better than throwing on a scarf, a light jacket, or a cozy sweater!  I must say, a good scarf is absolutely my favorite!  If DC didn’t get so damn hot in the summer, I would live in scarves year round.  So obviously this is an exciting time of year for me and it was made even more exciting by this gorgeous Echo Design scarf!  I love a bold scarf and this silk scarf is the definition of bold luxury that can literally be worn with everything!  I am obsessed with the bright colors and truly believe that a scarf is not only practical, but also an integral part of each ensemble and must be treated as such!  When donning a scarf make sure that it elevates your look, play with fabrics (I am loving that this scarf is silk, especially because it is so comfortable, lush and versatile), textures, sizes, and of course colors.  So how will you be rocking scarves this season?

This is a pretty straight forward look that is really all about the scarf. I always say accessories change everything!
