Emmy’s Best Dressed

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love awards season!  There is just something so magical about the glitz and glamour of the evening making it is easy to forget the hours/days of preparation the lovely starts endure just to make it on a best dressed list–Garden of Glam’s obviously being the most coveted.  The 2012 Emmy’s did not disappoint with very clear (and somewhat contradicting) trends emerging.  From mermaid to structure to neutral to neon this year’s red carpet delivered!

Julie Bowen simply glowed in this neon Monique Lhullier show stopper. She looked fresh and fabulous!

Jessica Pare looked fantastic in Jason Wu’s straightforward and classic silhouette. And as you know, black and white is the perfect combination.

Morena Baccarin is stunning in this demur Basil Soda pewter gown. The plunging neckline is perfectly complemented by the structural pleats.

Padma Lakshmi oozes confidence in this ultra feminine Monique Lhullier gown. I also commend her on the bold choice of color.

Kat Dennings looks incredible in this red J. Mendel gown that perfectly highlights her voluptuous figure.

Allison Williams dominates her first Emmy appearance in this structural peplum Oscar de la Renta stunner!

Favorite look of the night! January Jones is awe inspiring with her bold sartorial choices! She is looks modern and feminine in this edgy Zac Posen gown.

Black & White

Pairing black and white is basically the ultimate marriage of all things right.  These two opposites complement each other excellently, allowing for a multidimensional look that is also accessible.  So many interesting looks can be achieved with these elementary colors! So lets give a little more love to the perfect pair, black and white.

This combo allows you to wear white outside of its season and is perfect for transitional weather/seasons.

Blazer: Theory (last season, similar here), Pants: Gap (old, similar here), Top: Sparkle & Fade (old), Bag: Michael Kors (found here), Necklace: Anthropologie (old), Sunglasses: Ray Ban, Shoes: Aqua (old)

Another reason I like this look is that it can easily translate from work to happy hour or an evening event with just a switch of the shoes & accessories

Special thank you to Dzifa for his excellent photography skills!  Check out his blog here.

Black & White

Black and white is a timeless color combination.  Donning this classic duo, not only allows you to exude ease and class, but putting the look together is actually easy.  Color blocking is very on trend, but can be tricky and can quickly end in disaster if you don’t have an eye for color.  Black and white is the original color block and oozes sophistication.  And because this is such an effortless pairing it allows you to mix fabric textures more freely.

perfect for way to transition your wardrobe to cooler weather. i love the intricate cropped top paired with a classic black maxi.

FNO Georgetown (InstaStyle)

This past Thursday marked an important evening in the fashion world, a night where people put on their finest and roamed the streets in search of a party, a good deal and with hopes of being noticed.  This magical night that I am describing is Fashion’s Night Out, which is really just a celebration of all things fabulous and oh yes, spending.  This was my first FNO and I had a wonderful time!  I saw some incredibly inspirational outfits, met some marvelous people, and may or may not have purchased a few things (all in the name of the economy, right?).  Please enjoy my FNO Georgetown as seen through the lovely lens of Instagram.

Top: old, Pants: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Cuff: Gift, Necklace: BCBG (found here), Clutch: Gigee Marie (similar found here)

Details of the evening. Rings: BCBG (old) & Annie Cream Cheese

View from above. Shoes: DVF (old)

Clearly, I am a fan of the black and white combo! I am obsessed with these pants that at first glance could pass as a skirt!

Love the intricate sequins and beading patterns. I also love the unexpected fur accessory add on.

Looking fabulous in sequins, chambray, & motorcycle boots

Brave pairing of stripes and leopard

Best dressed couple of the evening! Kevin Gray of MensStylePoint.

Obsessed with each element of these ensembles.

Fab fall accents

My dear friend Sadie looking incredible in a sparkly beaded skirt, paired for perfection with a sheer flowy blouse

Daring Details! Marcus Noel of Heart of Man.

Resort Wear (part II)

Sadly, I am no longer in Hawaii, waking up to freshly cut mango and papaya, listening to the waves gently crash into the beach.  Instead, I am in the muggy East Coast and back to the daily grind.  So in my last attempt to hold onto the islands, I’m sharing a few more pictures from my vacation.  Similar to my previous resort wear post, this post features clothes that easily translate from resort wear to ready to wear, giving the clothes more currency.

Special thank you to Marissa for modeling and for being fabulous and to Kyle for lending his incredible photography skills.  To see more of Kyle’s work go to kyleboynton.com.

This outfit is perfect for chilly Hawaii nights and also early fall evenings. I love the strong shoulders in this blouse and peek-a-boo back.  I also aggressively ignore the no white after Labor Day rule.

Blouse: Gracia (found here), Pants: Seven for all Mankind (last season), Shoes: DVF (old), Clutch: Gigee Marie (similar found here), Necklace: Eastern Market, Sunglasses: Ray Ban (found here), Bracelets: Random Assortment, Rings: Annie Cream Cheese (shop here) & Charm Georgetown (shop here)

Details make an outfit

I love love love this dress! Resort wear at it’s finest, it is also perfect for a summer wedding, and would look super cute with a cropped leather jacket.

Dress: Alice + Olivia (found here), Shoes: Christian Louboutin (last season), Earrings: Kendra Scott (found here), Bracelets: J. Crew (found here) & David Yurman (found here), Watch: Rolex, Sunglasses: Tom Ford (found here), Clutch: Nanette Lepore (last season)
